A couple of weeks ago one of my teenagers was super-miffed with my husband and me.
On a car ride home from church, after explaining a biblical position we held on a touchy subject, this unnamed teenager maintained his shock and sudden anger.

Surely you’ve thought about it. If you were going to get a tattoo, what would it be?
I have no real insights on this one. Everything I think of only sounds cool for about five seconds. And my husband has wisely postulated that if you want to get a tattoo, you should wait ten years to see if you still want it, and then get it.
I will say that tattoos are great conversation starters–because every tattoo has a story. Kind of like scars.
I guess you could say that because of my story, which I shared last week–I’m pretty passionate about giving insecurity the boot. Maybe it’s much more so in parenting because I watch how my kids Xerox my values.
And I know how much it’s robbed from me.
I told you how insecurity—for far too long—was a giant, life-sucking Hoover in my marriage. It was as if I’d wrapped a leash around my neck, panting to be led by someone’s opinions. …Even complete strangers.
